Why did this copic markers come in second place?
This is a pretty decent product that perfectly fitted the interior of our office. I recommend you to consider buying this model, it definitely worth its money. I really liked it. It is amazing in every aspect. It did even exceed my expectations for a bit, considering the affordable price. Seems that the material is good. It has a very beautiful color but I don’t really like the texture.

copic markers Buyer’s Guide
Our Recommended Copic Paper
This paper has a very smooth texture which makes ideal for people that need some extra time to blend colors.
But at the same time, the paper has a very high saturation point. This will let you apply multiple layers without having to worry that the ink might bleed through the page.
The Copic markers smoothly move over the surface without any resistance. Additionally, every single layer will darken the color a little bit. You can use this to your advantage to shade certain areas.
However, many people prefer to work with sketchbooks. If you are looking for the best sketchbook for Copic markers, you need need to look far. The same company that made the Copic marker also released a special Copic Sketchbook.
Just like the X-Press It Blending Card, this Copic marker sketchbook is pretty smooth. This makes it easy to glide your markers across the paper and lets you take your time when blending. Adding a second and third layer of ink gives a clearly darker tone as well.
For more detailed instructions on choosing the right paper for you, read our article on the best paper for Copic markers.
Recommendations
If you are looking to use the markers for blending I suggest you first buy a basic set of markers in the same color group (I recommend the sepia or grey tones). Each marker has a color code that helps you determine what color family the marker belongs to. By buying a basic set you can practice blending before you commit to a full set of markers.
If you are on a budget buy the Ciao markers. They may look childlike compared to the other models but have the exact same quality ink and tips as the Sketch markers. The only difference is that they hold less ink and come in less colors. If you plan on using refill inks the smaller barrel shouldn’t be an issue (one ink cartridge can refill up to 1ciao markers) and for the other colors that are missing from the Ciao set you can still buy single Sketch markers.
My experience
I love them! I’ve only used them for a couple of weeks and the money I spent was very well worth it so I don’t regret the purchase. I bought the 2color Ciao set and I am planning to buy additional colors that I am missing as I go along. Thanks to these I started doing way more analogue art (I’ve become a slave to the digital to be honest).

Here are a complete list of the stores I went to, what they have to offer and their ranking. You can choose which store to visit depending on what else you want to see besides Copic markers.
Animate (Ikebukuro, Tokyo)
What will ruin a marker tip? White Out Unfired Clay/plaster. Acrylic paints Chalks/Oil Pastels Untested stamping inks Solvents or oils Rule of thumb- If it is something that when it gets wet it smears and is opaque, STAY AWAY or test it first.
Stationary
Since artists often work with dozens of colors, it’s useful to have a storage system in place. You may want to buy a storage bin or create your own set of bins that will allow you to sort markers by color. While most art markers can just be capped and tossed in a bin, some brands of paint markers need to be stored on their side to prevent them from drying out or leaking.
Parka Blogs
Here’s a review of the more commonly used markers by artists and designers. Markers are great for fast sketching, putting down colours quickly. They are convenient but may not be as easy to use as you imagine. However, many artists have created awesome works with markers. Markers are quite commonly used in comic cons by artists to create commissioned artworks because there’s almost no drying time.
I personally have a huge box of copic markers with many colours years ago but have since gave them away. Main reason is because it can be difficult to upkeep to many colours. You’ll also need to buy refills for many of them. Cost is a major issue as well because markers are not cheap, and each time I’m at the art store and see a colour I don’t have, I’m tempted to get them. I still keep some Copic markers but only the grey, warm greys and black colours for quite tonal thumbnail sketches. They can be used to visualise ideas quickly.
Below’s a quick summary of all the features, pros and cons of the common brands that include Copic, Prismacolor, Chartpak, Sharpie and Crayola.
Sharpie
Sharpie markers are more for drawing than colouring because of their pointed nib which has less limited surface area compared to the chiseled nib. However, there are markers with chiseled nibs as well, just that they aren’t available in many colours.
Ink is water-resistant and fade-resistant
