Why did this rc trucks come in second place?
This is a pretty decent product that perfectly fitted the interior of our office. Seems that the material is good. It has a very beautiful color but I don’t really like the texture. Managers explained me all the details about the product range, price, and delivery. I like this product. For such a low price, I didn’t even hope it to be any better. It’s decently made.

rc trucks Buyer’s Guide
Recommendations
If you are purchasing a RC Truck for someone under 12, we would recommend a RC Truck with a brushed electric motor, as a brushless motor truck may be too fast for them.
If the person is over12, we would recommend a brushless electric Truck, as the higher performance, capability and better components, will retain their interest for longer.
If the person is 1or over, we would recommend a brushless electric or nitro gas powered RC Truck (see pros and cons of gas vs electric in this guide). If the person has a mechanical aptitude, and shows an interest in engines, a nitro gas powered truck may be the best choice. If the person is mechanically challenged, then a brushless electric Buggy would be the best choice.
If you are buying a Nitro gas powered RC Truck, and this is your first nitro vehicle, we also recommend you purchase a nitro starter kit, and a spare glow plug (part 70117). You will need to purchase 20% Nitro gas fuel at a local RC Hobby shop as fuel cannot be shipped through the mail.
If you are purchasing an electric RC Truck, and you budget allows, we would recommend you purchase an additional battery, as your play time is limited by the battery capacity you have. For brushless electric trucks, these batteries are in the LIPO RC battery category on our website, and for brushed electric trucks the batteries would be in the NIMH battery category, and you will want a battery with a white connector.
Off-Road RC Cars
The bits that go in your car are often more important than the car itself. You can often avoid dealing with these sorts of details by looking at a “Ready-to-Run” (RTR) package like the Tamiya XB range of cars. It is always worth checking whether there are additional requirements to get your car on the road. The Wonderland Models Radio Control Department are more than happy to help with any queries you may have.
To make it easier for you we have put together a couple of package deals that include most of the parts you need to get your car going. Depending on what level you are at there is a package deal for you.
So, what do you need? Usually to get a RC Car going you needs the following.
Radio Equipment
How you will control the vehicle. This will usually include a transmitter, receiver, and occasionally servos. You can see here Wonderland Models range of transmitter packages from leading companies like Carson. Almost all cars will require at least servo to control the steering of the vehicle, so make sure that your radio package includes one. If it doesn’t, you could use something like the Carson CS-or Hitec HS-322HD.
Batteries
There are a great many battery chargers available these days, and which one will suit your purposes is often a bit hard to figure out. If you are just starting out and using the standard NiMh type of batteries that are meant for RC Cars, then you can get away with something like the basic Ansmann Powerjack 6-Charger which will charge a 2000mAh NiMh battery overnight (6-hours). The Ansmann Delta Fast Charger will charge the same capacity battery in about 20-30mins, and is often worth the extra money.
Motors and Speed Controllers
Brushed Motors – Are the traditional style of motor that come in a variety of strengths and are generally cheaper.
Brushless Motors – A more recent arrival into the world of RC. They can be faster, more efficient and easier to maintain than traditional brushed motors. However, they involve a higher initial cost.
Pavement
From the most difficult to the easiest, concrete or asphalt provides the least resistance to R/C vehicles, and therefore doesn’t have any limitations. Pretty much any vehicle can work on pavement. Some may be more fun than others on this surface — a rock crawler, for example wouldn’t be very entertaining on flat pavement — but from a function perspective, anything goes.
Sand Dunes
If you’ve ever run a four-wheeler at the sand dunes, you know that sand is pretty terrible for anything mechanical, and this still holds true to radio control applications as well. That said, with the proper maintenance and care, most R/C vehicles can handle a trip to the dunes, though you’ll probably need to purchase different tires for this terrain. Again, I’m not sure how much fun a rock crawler would be in this situation, but to each his own.
Bashing
By far the most common use for R/C vehicles, ‘bashing’ is the term we use for pretty much anything that isn’t racing, from running around the backyard to hitting up the local skate park. You don’t have to actively be trying to destroy your vehicle to be bashing; it’s just a derisive term dreamt up by racers to describe non-racers, and the name stuck. This can even include having your buddies over for a race around the backyard – that’s still considered bashing.
Basher vehicles are usually built for durability and aren’t overly concerned about how heavy the vehicle is and how quickly it can get up so speed. They are more worried about surviving that fifteen-foot jump and not breaking every time you hit a rock.
When we talk about R/C racing, we are talking about an organized system where you aren’t just racing your friends. Most racers are at the ‘club’ level – meaning it usually isn’t for money. Sometimes there’s a trophy or ribbon, and sometimes it’s just for bragging rights. What separates it from bashing is the organization, track upkeep, and data tracking, and how serious it is taken by those who participate. Competition can be fierce, and constant tuning, research, and component upgrades are necessary to stay with the pack.
Vehicles intended for racing are very lightweight and built of more rigid, less durable material. The goal of a racing vehicle is to get to speed as quickly, be nimble in the corners, and handle well on a track. The overall goal is to sacrifice durability for performance, so you might not survive many collisions with other cars on track.
Brushed
Brushed motors have been around since the beginning of the hobby. They are cheap and plentiful, and most vehicles equipped with brushed motors are less expensive than their brushless counterparts. These motors are usually open to the environment to help them keep cool, but this can also introduce dirt, sand, and other debris into the motors, wearing them out quicker.
Brushless
Brushless motors, compared to their brushed cousins, are basically more everything: more durable, more efficient, more speed, and more expensive. While they don’t wear out nearly as quickly as brushed motors, they are pricier to replace if needed, and just as vulnerable to high temperate degradation, but if you want more speed and power, brushless is where it’s at.
It should be noted that vehicles that start out with brushed motors can almost always be upgraded to brushless motors at a later date. It usually costs more in the long run to start brushed and upgrade later, but that cost is spaced out over time, as opposed to purchasing the more expensive, brushless-equipped truck right away.
Choosing a Brand
This might be the hardest part of the whole process, because, while there are only six major categories of vehicle, there are hundreds of R/C brands out there. Most of them aren’t reputable, but it can sometimes be hard to spot a bad brand from a good one. Here are our picks for best brands.
Categories
ARRMA Is another solid R/C truck brand. Their trucks are well designed, and are about as competitive as the ECX offerings, and ARRMA suffers from the same problems as ECX as well. Hobby shop support is sporadic, and they have even fewer hop-up options than ECX. Their handling, however, is pretty good, and they have the backing of another major player in the hobby world: Hobbico.
Vaterra
Vaterra is an interesting company, in that their focus is predominantly scale accuracy in their vehicles. Everything needs to look just so, and some of their offerings, particularly their cars, look amazing. They also offer a very well regarded rock crawler, as well as some faster monster trucks. Vaterra isn’t a well-represented company on store shelves, though, so talk to your local hobby shop to see if they offer parts on hand for Vaterra before diving in too deep.
Crawling
Axial is a little different, since they are basically the King of Crawlers. Axial pretty much owns that market, and no one else is even close. However, they have recently tried to branch out into other categories, and while they’ve had financial success, their vehicles in other categories aren’t always well received by their fans. Since Axial tends to run hot and cold on anything that isn’t a rock crawler, do your research to see what others have to say about that truck, but if you’re looking for a rock crawler, Axial is pretty much the best you can buy.
Team Associated
Like Losi, Team Associated has a storied past in R/C racing, and they have mostly succeeded in making bashing trucks as well, though, like Losi, they are still mostly known for racing. Assuming your local hobby shop has parts on hand for their trucks, Associated is a solid brand if you’re preparing to hit the local track and stay competitive.

Traxxas XO-1
This remote controlled racing machine is meant for expert drivers only as this super quick RC car can reach speeds of 0 to 100 mph in slightly under five seconds. Yes, that is correct, it has life-like speeds built under its lid.
This super quick machine comes with a TQi 2.Ghz radio system with Traxxas’ Wireless Link Module. With the unique ProGraphix painted bodies that add the extra styling that is hard to beat, everyone will be trying to catch a glimpse of this fast RC car as it zips past the competition.
This RC car can reach speeds of 100 mph straight out of the box with additional Power Cell LiPo batteries available through back-end purchases. Traxxas has been widely known for the last several years as creating the best engineered and quickest cars in the marketplace, and they certainly do not let down with this mention on our list of b est remote controlled cars in 2017.
Redcat Racing Lightning EPX Drift
The Lightning EPX Drift with a brushed motor by Redcat Racing is perfect for those individuals looking to get a powerful machine at a fraction of the price of some of the other mentions on our list.
This Redcat Racing product allows owners to customize the style in which they want to race. Whether you like drifting forward or even sideways, the Lightning EPX Drift enables you to do it your way. The Lightning EPX Drift make it possible to blur the line between controlled driving and out of control drifting all in one, without having to worry about disaster striking because the RC car can’t handle it. Contrary to some of the other items on the market, this RC car can handle everything you throw at it, as drifting is its specialty.
This RC car can drift around corners with ease and have enough power to propel itself forward to retain momentum built up before going around the corner. The lightweight built and plastic chassis that Redcat Racing engineered this beauty enabling it to recover easily after entering the drift.
The unique feature of this RC car is that Redcat Racing not only engineered it to get it out of trouble before it occurs but also to have the ability to backup in case you still went a little too wide with that drift you just entered. A backup functionality was built into this RC car’s transmission so that you can get out of trouble and back to drifting around corners in no time.
Redcat Racing engineered this beauty with customization in mind so that each driver could continue racing and tuning to their full potential with adjustable suspension. With no assembly required, this racing machine is ready to drift around corners in no time.
Axial SCXHoncho RTR AX90022
This RC car styled into an RC truck is one of the best remote controlled cars available in the marketplace today with a mid-ranged affordability. The greatest feature of the SCXis that it doesn’t sacrifice the quality of its performance because of its styling. This beast of a machine can perform fantastic on or off trails.
Built with an ultra durable transmission and axles that enable drivers to take this machine wherever they want without having to worry about engineering concerns is great for those looking for a machine to traverse unique trails that offer a bumpier ride.
The SCXHoncho was designed with heavy duty differential lockers to help distribute weight where needed so that the chassis and suspension don’t buckle under the increased weight during rough rides. In addition, the suspension has a link design to reduce some of the torque twist and steers that can come with some of the steep climbs that could be required.
Just like the previous mention on our list, this RC car also comes with adjustable shocks to customize the off-road performance to get a better grip or ride depending on the terrain this RC car attempts to tackle. One of the greatest styling features of this RC car is that it comes with LED lights so that you won’t be hampered by only being able to drive during the day.
Unfortunately, this RC car does require some extra purchases before you can take this out on some of the rough terrains because it requires: AA Batteries, a charger, and electric battery.
Redcat Racing Rampage XB
Redcat Racing makes our list twice with the Rampage XB RC car. This RC car comes in slightly larger than some of the other options on our list, as it is a 1:scale to its off-road counterparts. With a host of features that make it stand out from some of the other options on our list, this is definitely one RC car you should look at before making your purchase.
The Rampage XB from Redcat Racing has a gas motor, which is in contrast to some of the completely electric offerings that are on our list. In addition, it comes with waterproof electronics which don’t limit where you can drive this RC car, or how you clean it when you’re done having a good time.
Redcat Racing takes a cue from some of the dune buggies of old with their styling of this RC car as they have a minimal lid styling that only covers the top of the car, and leaves the suspension, axles, wheels, and spoiler exposed. This styling is quite unique, as most RC car companies like to keep all of the inner-workings underneath the lid, but in this instance, we really like how it looks.
With extreme power through its stroke gas engine, this RC car boasts 30cc’s with an aluminum chassis that will handle anything you throw this car at. A ready to run manufacturing with no extra purchases required, this RC car is one of the best available on the market.
Test Drive
After the bearings, new radio and new motor were installed, the Evader looked pretty much like it did before. It was, in fact, a very different machine. My son and I test drove it and found that it was now much faster-nearly as fast as the Ruckus. However, the upgraded Evader had a strong tendency to spin out at every turn. There are numerous suspension adjustments that can be made to fine-tune steering response, but I think tires are the best place to start attacking traction problems.
I was still using the Evader’s stock knobby tires which were several years old. Although they didn’t look very worn, they had hardened over time. Just as with full-size cars, soft tires are sticky tires. So, I set out to find some new tires that would be softer and also have a tread pattern that would work reasonably well on dirt or paved surfaces.
The Duratrax Evader BX served as an ideal starter car for my son. It was fast enough to hold his interest, but tame enough that he could control it. Best of all, it readily accepted upgrades to improve its performance.
Although cost was a deciding factor, the main reason I wanted the tires from the Evader EXT was to make my Evader a little bit more versatile. The larger front and rear tires would give better footing on grass and rough ground than the smaller buggy tires (which are better suited to well-groomed dirt racetracks). Even with the bigger tires, I could have kept the original buggy body on the Evader. Keeping that form-fitting cover in place would help keep out a lot of the detritus that inevitably permeates into all parts of the car. The only problem is that it would have looked a little odd (oh vanity!).
I adapted the front body mount from the Evader EXT by fabricating a simple adapter plate from scrap circuit board.
When I was done, my Evader was a hybrid of the BX buggy and EXT 2.truck models. After installing the larger rear tires (which is equivalent to changing gears), it now keeps pace with the Ruckus. The softer tires also alleviated much of the spin-out problem. I plan to tweak it further with suspension adjustments.
The Evader upgrade was a very straightforward project and just a hint of the customization that is possible with RC cars. My goal was also to illustrate that older cars need not be discarded. In many cases, they can be upgraded to take advantage of new technology. My son and I now have a pair of cars with similar performance that we can enjoy together on the street or down at the park.
The completed truck conversion of the Evader BX looks very different from the original buggy style. This radical change only required a few component swaps. Such adaptability is common in the RC car world.
Coming Up
RC Online Hobby Shop reviews for more detailed information and to simplify your search.
That would be great in a perfect world, and we have come a long way since the first “silver zinc voltaic pile” battery invented some 200 years ago. In fact, some of the earliest ones were lead acid batteries. These were somewhat dangerous at the time and were limited to stationary applications for fear of spilling the acid.
In today’s arena, however, the advances that rc car battery technology have made in recent years are a god sent to the RC car industry. This article will look at the different types of rc truck & car batteries, and provide some vital information on how to handle them.
Lithium Cells
Li-Po cells or Lithium Ion cells are the next generation of batteries and are slowly making their way into the RC world. You may notice these same batteries are now available to power some of your cordless tools in the garage. These newcomers are powerful, full of torque, light weight and are sure to make an impact on the rc battery market. HPI Racing and Traxxas RC cars are developing some of the best rc car batteries on the market today.
Battery
This RC car is best used with a Polaroid AA/AAA batteries combo pack. The car unit itself needs AAA batteries, while the remote control needs AA batteries.
Take note, however, that the batteries are not included in the package as they can be purchased separately. While polaroid batteries are the ones recommended and ideal for this car, you can also use other brands, provided that they belong to the same type of batteries.
Simulation Tire
Having simulation rubber tires mean that this model is quite similar to that of a real car. To make things even more attractive and interesting, the system even comes with a shock absorber and a damping effect design.
As such, this model is an ideal choice for those who want to experience realism without having to deal with complex components.
Fine Adjustment
In cases wherein you may notice that your car is not running in a straight line, you can easily restore the car in order to reach the lever forward to the direction of the car. This can be done by trimming the purposes on the bottom part of the car.
The fact that this RC car allows for easy and fine adjustment means that there is no need to worry about being inexperienced or novice in this regard.
Powerful motor
The NextX S91monster truck also comes with a monster motor with its powerful brushed 390 motor. The motor gives more than 3mph for its driving speed, which is more compared to other RC trucks that are currently available on the market these days.
Warning Transmission
Each time the battery is already on low charge, a warning transmission is sent to the user, given an alert that it needs charging right away. As such, you will not have to be interrupted while playing your game. This product is also designed with built-in safe mechanisms.
Single Speed Transmission
Because of the use of single speed transmission, this model is durable, dependable and simple. It uses a 2.mm 6060 chassis made of anodized aluminum, as well as composite disc brakes that are built into its standard buggy body. Throttle and steering controls are quite smooth and easy as well.
Radio Control
This model is built-in with the standard pair of radio control and receiver. Its transmitter offers trim knobs, servo reversing, as well as an impressive array of operation. The range this mini rc car can reach is up to 45.meters before control is lost. Battery life indicators are also included so that you can easily keep an eye on the overall operation.
Customization
One of the most interesting features of this model is its customization capability. With this said, this truck comes with two separate gear rations which easily allows you to switch from the first gear to the second gear.
The first gear is designed for climbing, while the second gear is designed for trail races. Aside from customizing the surfaces they want to travel using this vehicle, the process on how to do so has also been innovated.
Engine Power
This model struts an amazing engine power. It comes with a built-in 25.V system which makes it able to go from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.seconds, while going as far as 100 mph when using LiPo batteries which are purchased separately.
Battery Life
Once the batteries are used up, you can easily get back on track in about 2.hours and around a total of 20 minutes of performance before needing another recharge. This is quite longer in terms of runtime compared to other models out there.
Durable Construction
The body of this car is made of aluminum chassis with plastic subframes in both ends. It also comes with adjustable coil-over shocks as well as multilink suspensions.
The flat bottom chassis comes equipped with a functional rear diffuser as well as a NACA duct which is highly effective in cooling the motor. At the same time, with the presence of a huge front splitter, high speed nervousness is controlled.
Superior Control
The remote control of this electric RC car comes with a range that reaches up to 260 feet. It also comes with a built-in throttle, as well as a highly responsive steering system. Among other features that contribute to its control includes an ergonomic transmitter system.
High Performance
The performance of this electric RC car is a result of the presence of a 2.GHz radio system, amazing off-road performance, use of S-truck suspension technology, making it possible to deliver durable and strong performance. As such, it is ideal even for very specialized operations such as drift, turn and flip.
All-Terrain Design
This RC car is made for all-terrain use. With this said, you do not have to worry about bringing this into sand, wet mud, grass, and even marshy land. It is very easy to control even with difficult movement. It also comes with a semi-waterproof design which allows you to play with it under any weather conditions.
After Sales Service
This Traxxas RC car is designed with an amazing range, reaching up to 260 feet. This is one of the widest range out there, which means that it is not just designed as a simple toy, but for serious hobbyists out thereJust like with any other purchase, you surely would want to ensure support after.
Flawless Performance
Aside from looks, this crawler is also amazing when it comes to performance. It is fast (in its own category), can crawl and climb just like a beast. The inclusion of beaded tires are a good upgrade compared to other earlier models. The trim is also very easy to set.
Large Tires
What is easily recognizable with this model is its large tires, four-wheel drive and full suspension system. The tires are also soft, thus making it possible for achieving maximum grip even on steeper surfaces. At the same time, they also work really well for crawling on top of rocks and logs, and other surfaces coming its way.
Full Suspension
The full suspension of this model is made out of a solid axle and soft springs. This only means that you can expect a huge amount of articulation with this type of suspension. At the same time, it is also less likely that the vehicle flips over especially when running on uneven terrain and surfaces.
Pistol-grip Transmitter
The inclusion of a pistol-grip transmitter makes this model ideal for beginners, even for kids. The smaller size perfectly suits young, small hands. Note, however, that the remote of this model does not have proportional control. This means that you can either expect full throttle, or none at all.
Support
The remote used in this vehicle is designed similar to that of a joystick, allowing for easier use. However, there is a neat difference behind this. This only means that you no longer have to put in on a flat surface for use. The moment you hold it when standing and moving the entire unit, this moves the car.
This capacity is brought about by the Gravity Sensor Remote Control which is sensitive enough to detect movements. The remote is easy to use despite the fact that it is not like the usual ones in other models.
Battery Packs
This vehicle operates using NiCAd battery. Two are included in the package, which means that you can use one while charging the other. This only translates to longer use of the car. It is also used with rechargeable AA batteries which leaves any potential worries behind.
RC Unit Control
Another positive feature about this model is that everything can be controlled coming from the RC unit. The car driving control, dual opening doors, as well as LED lights are well coordinated and well put together.
The remote control unit is also relatively sensitive, which means that even with the slightest touch, the car will move swiftly. There are also some DEMO modes for your enjoyment, which will allow you to have fun without actually driving yet.
Continuous Driving Time
One NiCAD battery drives for about 2to 30 minutes in between charge. The charging time will reach up to to hours, with a controlling distance of 30 meters. Since there is a bonus rechargeable battery, as well as a charger, you can definitely expect doubled playing time.
Drift RC Cars
Drift RC cars are designed to represent their actual-sized drifting car counterparts. They are electrically powered, thus giving an extra ounce of excitement to their users. As suggested by the name, they are primarily designed to showcase the best ‘drifting’ moves in the race.
Buggy RC Cars
Buggy RC cars are primarily designed for use on off-road racing. They are based originally on their full-scale counterparts, which are found commonly on desert racing. Under buggy cars are two categories, 2WD (2-wheel drive) and 4WD (4-wheel drive). They can be visually distinguished by the size of the wheels used. Buggy cars are really popular these days because they offer a good combination of off-road and on-road capabilities. With this said, these buggies can typically reach up to high speeds, and still be expected to jump hills or gracefully go through dirt piles easily.
Truggy RC Cars
As you can guess from its name, a truggy car is a combination of a ‘truck’ and a ‘buggy’. This is pretty evident in its appearance. The wheels tell you that it has the looks of a truck, while the body itself has the appearance of a buggy. This interesting design makes this type of RC car a powerful option for use in competitions. Aside from its unique appearance and style, a truggy car is also built-in with highly competitive features that fit in with its looks.
RC Trucks
If you want a little bit more ruggedness in your remote control vehicle, maybe it is time for you to step up from a car to an actual RC truck. This is preferred by those who would like to see something new out of remote control vehicles, and having a truck on the playing street is a great sight to see.
Speed & Range
There are generally two speeds that are associated with RC vehicles, actual speed and scale speed. For hobby-grade models, the standard speed is between and 70 mph. Some models may reach up to 100 mph, especially for modified RC cars. Range, on the other hand, refers to the actual distance in which the car can be operated from the remote control. You may want to take a look at it before actually purchasing a model.
Handling & Suspension
In getting an RC car, regardless of its type, it is very important to know some handling basics. This includes understanding some terms used in handling, such as understeering, oversteering, camber, caster, and several others. In order to get the most out of your RC car, you may want to learn a few things about suspension tuning. Most RC cars for sale come with several available tuning adjustments, allowing you to make your vehicle work at any type of track and surface.
Maintenance
Even before purchasing your own RC car, it is important to determine whether or not it is easy to maintain. This can help a lot depending on your own skills and experience. Standard models are easier to maintain compared to those of hobby level models. Electric cars are also relatively easy to maintain compared to nitro cars because there is no fuel engine system involved.
Dealer Selection
The new-car market is bursting with activity; it’s incredible how many options exist from affordable subcompacts to high-end sports cars and midsize sedans filled with premium options formerly reserved for the very top of the luxury market. There are plenty of luxurious options as well, and we’ve covered them all right here.
Unchanged
All-new last year under Toyota’s departed Scion brand, the iM (pictured) transitions to the Toyota brand as part of the Corolla lineup. There are no changes for the Corolla iM except for the Scion badges being replaced by Toyota ones. The 137-hp, 1.8-liter I-can be paired to a six-speed manual or a CVT. The car comes with a generous list of standard equipment.
